Tony is one of the smartest guys I have ever known, especially when it comes to physical therapy and rehabilitation in baseball. During the 10.5 months training to get back on the mound, every day he created a fun workspace, but pushed my body to achieve its maximum capacity. The program has a variety of workouts targeting the entire body, including muscle groups I had not previously been focused on training. Towards the end of my rehab, I felt stronger and had a greater range of motion than before my injury even occurred. Ultimately, it is up to you on how much you want to get out of it, how much you are willing to push yourself during the grind of every day. The program requires discipline, commitment, and patience. But there is no better program to follow, and no better person to help you try to reach your full potential than Tony. Without a doubt, I would not be where I am today without his program.

In late July of 2009, I got the news that no pitcher ever wants to hear, that your UCL is fully torn and in need of complete elbow reconstruction, which of course is known as Tommy John surgery. The following week, I received the surgery and then embarked on an arduous journey of rehabilitation with Tony Reale (the rehab coordinator with the sf giants at the time).
The rehab process was a very long one, which included agonizing range of motion and monotonous strengthening exercises. The program set forth by Tony became my life for the following 12 months and I tried my hardest to follow it to a T. The mental part became harder than the physical since doing the exact same rotator cuff and scap strengthening movements’ day in and day and out can become straining. But I knew if I wanted to come back from this injury, I needed to put my trust in the process. I learned a lot about my arm and body during that year and to this day, I still incorporate many of the same exercises into my daily routine during the season. It has become a part of me. Without that injury and rehab process, I am certain I would not be a big league pitcher. I can’t thank Tony enough for helping me through that time.

In 2014 I received devastating news that I had fully torn my UCL and would have to undergo tommy john surgery. A moment like that in an athlete’s career is not only physically crushing, but mentally. The first person that was there for me to pick up my physical and mental state was Tony and his program. It’s a program that requires trust and determination and that’s exactly what I focused on. I was able to get back to the athlete I wanted to be and more in less than a year. I felt amazing, I was in the best shape of my life and my velocity was higher than ever. Even now in the off-season I still use part of the program in my workouts to constantly strengthen my arm and body. There is no doubt in my mind that if you follow this program step by step that you will come back just as strong or even stronger than before.

I have been working closely with Tony for over a decade now, and he has been treating my athletes coming back from a wide array of surgeries/injuries. I have complete trust in his rehab programs and decisions based on the excellent results that I have been seeing now for over 10 years. To have access to bounce back questions and work with a program that he utilizes with his professional baseball players is priceless. I highly recommend anyone coming back from Tommy John surgery that needs more direction and guidance to use this program. I am excited for my Tommy John patients to be able to utilize Tony’s vast knowledge and years of experience.

Tony’s Tommy John rehab program is exceptional. We worked alongside each other for nearly 10 months and he knew exactly what to do every step of the way. The exercises and stretches that he has put together not only got me back on the field, but got my arm and body in better shape and stronger than before my injury. Tony’s knowledge of physical therapy is unparalleled, and his attention to detail is incredible. Following his program will give you the best chance at returning to the field healthier than ever!

I remember it like yesterday; I blew out my elbow while pitching for the Giants’ rookie ball affiliate in the Northwest league. The injury is frightening for everyone, but particularly for being a player who left home to journey to a foreign country where I didn’t speak the language and didn’t have family nearby. I was here alone and I had never been alone and away from the family for that long. So I focused my time and attention to Tony’s rehab program 6 days a week for the entire year. All my hard work paid off. Before Tommy John surgery I was throwing 93 mph Fastballs. My first post-surgery pitch in a game clocked in at 97 mph on the radar gun. From that point on, I was convinced my path would lead to a big league opportunity. Thanks to the program, I was able to GET healthy and follow my dream.

Tony is the best physical therapist I’ve ever worked with! His knowledge for how to treat an athlete’s body is off the charts! Besides being a great PT, Tony is a wonderful person as well. He is smart and knows his stuff! Physical therapy is no walk in the park and even grueling at times, but Tony found a way to make it as enjoyable an experience as possible!
